Turkey Hunting
Our river bottom on the Washita River holds hundreds of turkeys just waiting to be hunted. Some people think turkey hunting is a difficult task, but at McVey Outfitters, if you can walk 50-100 yards, we can get you on the turkeys. Last season, we harvested 7 toms on 6 hunts. All but one of them were shot within 100 yards of the truck! Many long beards have already been spotted this fall, so don't wait.
Here is an idea of how our turkey hunts work. If you stay in the hotel, we will meet you for breakfast and eat a good buffet. Then we will head out before daylight to the farm, where the guide has found the birds the night before. Depending on the hunter, we usually get set up before the birds fly down, so they don't know we are there. The guide does all the calling for you, and if things work out like they usually do, the birds will be in front of you in no time. The hunt is for two (2) full days of hunting. Extra birds may be purchased during the hunt, but Oklahoma regulations still apply. The good thing about hunting at MVO is that we have properties in two counties, so you can shoot three turkeys total if you wish. Food is your responsibility. We can break for lunch or just have a sandwich at the truck.
Turkey season has begun and it looks to be another good one. The youth weekend started us off right with two hunters, two birds! We had a couple of young men come out to see if they could get a turkey, one of which had never shot one. Both hunts were over before the sun came out! Check the PHOTO GALLERY to see the results.
